ABOUT THE NETWORK

N54 News is Night City's longest-running independent broadcast network, founded in 2031 and operating continuously since. We cover breaking news, political developments, corporate incidents, gang activity, civil advisories, and sporting events across all Night City districts and the surrounding Badlands region.

Our field crews operate in every district — including combat-classified zones — to bring citizens the information that Night City's power structures would prefer remained unreported. We broadcast around the clock, every night. Night City never stops. Neither do we.

N54 is the only independent network with licensed access to NCPD and Militech press releases, embedded field units in active conflict zones, and a dedicated corporate intelligence desk. We report what happens. Not what we're told happened.

Note: N54 News entered a five-year corporate sponsorship agreement with Militech Corporation in 2043. In December 2046 Militech unilaterally reduced its scheduled payments under that agreement. In January 2047 the N54 editorial board placed the arrangement under formal review and removed sponsor acknowledgment from all editorial furniture, broadcast idents and article pages. The contract has not been terminated. Militech remains a sponsor of this network at a materially reduced level, and that fact will continue to appear on this page for as long as it is true.

We are aware of how this looks. A network drops its sponsor's branding in the same quarter that sponsor's share price collapses, and calls it editorial independence. We would find that funny too. The honest position is that the money got smaller and the reputational cost got larger, and both of those things happened at once. We are not going to pretend the second one happened on its own.

N54 has received informal approaches regarding replacement sponsorship. The editorial board has not entered discussions with any party and will disclose it here if that changes.

SENIOR CORRESPONDENT — POLITICS & ELECTIONS

Primary reporter on the 2046 mayoral race from the earliest announcement. Embedded with the Drenshaw campaign for eight weeks before his assassination, and one of the last journalists to speak with him on record. Led the McSteel disappearance investigation through 2046; the file has never been closed and she has never formally handed it on. Now leads the network's Reconstruction Authority coverage — contract awards, the displaced persons register, and the gap between the two. NCPD asked her to stop the first time. Nobody has bothered asking about the second.

OKAFOR, FELIX

FIELD UNIT LEAD — COMBAT ZONES

Former NCPD officer turned journalist. Specialist in active combat zone coverage. Embedded with press units in Pacifica, Rancho Coronado and Kabuki through the 2046 reclassification period, and was inside the Little Europe perimeter for six days in October. Two members of his crew did not come out. He returned to the district in January and has been filing from the reconstruction zone since. Held a Trauma Team Silver contract paid by N54 until Little Europe was excluded from all tiers; he now works the district uncovered and has declined the network's offer to reassign him.

TANAKA, HIROSHI

CORPORATE INTELLIGENCE DESK

Leads N54's corporate reporting division. Spent three years maintaining a deep source inside Militech's Night City infrastructure division — a division that no longer exists, and a source who stopped responding in November. He has said publicly that he does not know whether that means they were reassigned, dismissed, or something else. Now covering the Arasaka Night City Division's establishment and Kang Tao's permit history, which he has described as the only two stories in this city that anyone will still return his calls about.

REYES, CAMILA

CRIME & NCPD CORRESPONDENT

Night City's most embedded crime reporter. Covers gang activity, NCPD operations, and the city's combat zone crisis. Present at the scene when McSteel was discovered in May 2046 and one of the N54 crew physically removed by NCPD; the press access complaint she filed over it was dismissed on procedural grounds fourteen months later. Now covering the renewed Kabuki conflict and the Webb file, on which she has interviewed forty-one people who claim to have seen him and verified none of them. Also covering eight other active stories simultaneously.

MÜLLER, DIETER

SPORT & CULTURE // NEW WESTBROOK

Covers Night City's sporting landscape including the Cyber-Uma scene, combat sports, and the city's rockerboy underground. Followed the Cyber-Uma Association's Night City expansion from its earliest planning stages through to the track's opening season. Also handles the network's culture desk, which since October has mostly meant writing about venues that no longer exist. The only N54 correspondent who has not been physically threatened in the course of their work. He continues to consider this suspicious.

HISTORY

N54 News was founded in 2031 by a group of former Night City Tribune journalists who were dismissed following a series of stories critical of Arasaka's post-war reconstruction contracts. Operating from a rented broadcast node in New Westbrook, the original team of six built the network from a single signal tower to a citywide operation in under three years.

The 2037 Night City riots marked N54's breakthrough moment. While other networks pulled field crews due to safety concerns, N54 kept three teams embedded throughout the unrest, producing the most comprehensive coverage of the event on record. Viewership tripled within a week.

In 2043, N54 entered a sponsorship arrangement with Militech Corporation, providing the financial stability to expand field operations across all city districts including active combat zones. The editorial board maintains that no story has been spiked or substantially altered as a result of this arrangement. Militech has occasionally disputed our characterisation of events. We have published those disputes alongside our original reporting.

October 2046 was the costliest week in this network's history. Three field units went into Little Europe. Two came back. The network has not replaced the lost crews and the editorial board has not decided whether it will. Our coverage of the battle and its aftermath was produced by nine field units doing the work of twelve, and readers who feel that our reporting since October has been slower and angrier than it used to be are not imagining it.

N54 News remains headquartered in New Westbrook, Night City. The building has been shot at twice. The broadcast signal has never gone down.
