Kang Tao is one of the oldest small arms manufacturers in China. In the 2020s, our pistols were carried on the streets of every major Asian city — reliable, affordable, and everywhere. When the DataKrash hit, the company nearly ended with it. The CEO at the time did not survive the crisis. Kang Tao survived on government subsidy and institutional inertia for over two decades.
In 2046, the Chinese government made a decision. They appointed Colonel Shiming Xu, a former army colonel with a mandate to turn a collapsing defence company into something that justified its continued existence. Colonel Xu did not arrive with a gentle turnaround plan. He arrived with state investment, a clear directive, and no patience for the previous management's approach.
The restructuring has stripped the company back to what it does well — small arms — and invested everything into smart weapons technology. The guided round platform under development in Beijing represents the most significant advance in Chinese small arms since the corporation's founding. When it reaches the market, it will not be competing with the past. It will be defining the future.
Kang Tao is in Night City because Night City is open to business that other NUSA cities are not. We are here to distribute our current product line and to establish the infrastructure for what comes next. Colonel Xu's timeline is not vague. The A-22B Chao smart pistol debuts in 2050. The corporation that delivers it will not resemble what Kang Tao looked like in 2045.
